Norma attended nursing school at Kahler Methodist School of Nursing in Rochester, Minnesota before moving to Soap Lake, WA in 1951. She worked as a Registered Nurse in Soap Lake, Ephrata and Spokane, WA. She was a faithful member of Salem Lutheran Church, a lifelong Democrat, and a caring and generous soul. She will be remembered for her hearty laugh, and her love of wild birds and pet dogs and cats. Norma was preceded in death by her loving husband Theodore G.
Arvan; sister Virginia Funke; and brothers James and Howard Ellickson; as well as her furry companions Lancy, Star, Foxy and Gus. She leaves behind her children James Eli and wife Kathy Arvan, R. Norm Arvan, John Arvan and Ginger and husband Mike Metcalf; grandchildren Alex Arvan, Eli Arvan, Noah (Monica) Arvan, Anna Arvan, Aimee Charboneau and Matthew (Beth Kleweno) Canterbury; her dear friend Ron Gillett; her Sisters in the Rhoda Circle, and her dog Buddy. (Age 73) Passed away Friday, February 17, 2012 in Spokane. Leonard was born in Seattle, WA and moved to Spokane in 1999, after his retirement from Hostess Bakery. A generous man he was always willing to help others and they all were better persons for having met him. Leonard loved boats, motorcycles any type of recreational vehicle. He was also an avid gardener, having built his own greenhouse.
His lawn was the best around. Leonard will be deeply missed. He was born on January 13, 1949, in White Plains, New York, to Nils and Ellen Boden. He graduated as a Certified Master Musical Instrument Technician from Eastman School of Musical Instrument Repair, in Union, New Jersey.
In 1980, Peter opened The Brass and Woodwind Shop, in Spokane Valley, from which he served musicians and school groups for the past 32 years. He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Jeanette; children, Peter (Sarah) Boden, Ruth (Dean Luethi) Boden, and Kevin (Trista) Boden; and six grandchildren. Peter is preceded in death by his parents. A celebration of life will be held on Friday, February 24, 2012, 3:30 PM, at Community Cremation Service Spokane Valley. (Age 78) Pauline was born on March 12, 1933 in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan Canada to Joseph Pace and Adolphia Schmidt. She attended Whitworth College.
In 1963 she married Lester Bowker. Pauline lived most of her adult life in Spokane. She had a great love for her family, friends and cats. She enjoyed Bunco, music, the arts, going to plays and traveling. She traveled across the U.S., in to Mexico, Canada and Hawaii.
She spent some of her life as an Avon representative and was a member of the senior center. Pauline was preceded in death by her husband Lester Bowker in July of 1992. She is survived by her son Bill Bowker; daughter Suzi Shepard; grandson Alex Toney; granddaughter Katelynn Shepard; and her cats Desi and Lucy. Pete was born December 13, 1943 in Walla Walla, WA to Anna (Conrad) and Stan Caldwell. Pete graduated from Touchet High in 1962 and played football for one year at USC. He married Patricia Martin, March 1963. Together they raised four children Chad Caldwell, Michele (Todd) Oestreich (Ritzville), Kim (Jim) Leonard (Spokane), and Piper (Jake) Dickenson (Rosalia), near Ritzville by Benge where he worked for Kleweno Land and Livestock for 20 plus years. In 1989 he moved to the Palouse area where he worked for McGregors and Arrow Machinery.
He and Patricia were later divorced. On October 16, 1993 he married Margaret Kilpatrick. Together they lived in Oakesdale. Pete was a past president of the Ritzville Eagles Lodge, a past member of the Masonic Lodge and was a Worthy Patron with Margaret in Eastern Star in Oakesdale. He was on the Open Professional Rodeo Board and helped run open horse shows at Tekoa.
After Margaret retired from teaching they started their own trucking business in the Othello area called PM Trucking, where he employed three other drivers. Pete was a very hard worker and very active in his and lives. He will be loved and missed very much. He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, Janet, Judy, Sheila and one brother, Fred. He is survived by his wife Margaret, children Chad, Michele (Todd), Kim (Jim), Piper (Jake), Joey (Steve), grandchildren, Seath, Sheve, Haley, Skyler, Adi, Samara, Danika, Blake, and sister, Linda Caldwell.

BLOUNT, Virginia (Age 85) February 1, 1927 February 19, 2012 Virginia Blount, mother, grandmother and great- grandmother, is now reunited together and forever with her husband, James; and her mother and brothers. She graduated from North Central High School. Virginia worked for Sidney E. Smith Company to start, which turned into Spokane Valley Savings Loan and later became Pacific First Federal; and she then retired after it became Washington Mutual. She was married October 4, 1946 to James William Blount, Jr.
She is survived by her children David and Paula Blount, Dennis and Maryann Blount and Diane and Randy Jones; grandchildren, Denise Saxby, Jason Blount, Amber Kurtzhall and Jason Kelly, Rachelle and Matthew Rowland, Joey Sorenson, and Beau and Savannah Jones; great- grandchildren Ashley and Shelby Blount, Raelee, Madison and Braeden Rowland, Brendaisy, Jadalee and Jessenna Blount. EDWARDS, Beatrice (Age 89) Passed away February 17, 2012 in Spokane, WA. She was born June 12, 1922, in Juneau, AK, moved to Seattle for a little while, and came to Spokane in 1952. She was employed by Spokane Film for a brief time before working in the camera department at the Crescent Department Store for many years. She was a longtime member of the Order of the Eastern Star and Hope Rebekah Lodge Bea was preceded in death by her husband, Wilfred Edwards (2003), and is survived by a small circle of friends. Eastern Washington shot a team score of 975, good for 11th place in the 12-team event.
Jayme Carbon was the top finisher for the Eagles, with a three-round score of 236 tying her for 23rd place. Teo Poplawski finished tied for eighth place at the UNLV Spring Rebel Invitational in Boulder City, Nev. 54-hole score of 223 was 7 over par and five strokes back of the medalists. The Vandals finished eighth overall with a team total of 937. Arizona won the tournament at 872.
College tennis Eastern Washington senior Chad Henninger was named Co-Big Sky Player of the Week, the first weekly honor of his career. Henninger won both of his singles matches last weekend, improving his singles record to a Big Sky-best 7-0 this season. He is 4-2 this season in doubles with partner Julian Sanchez. Idaho sophom*ore Almudena Sanz was named Western Athletic Conference Tennis Athlete of the Week. Sanz went 5-1last weekend, including 3-0 in singles.
Football The Spokane Shock added wide receiver Justin Ore and defensive back LeMetrius Davis to their roster. Ore, who played at Western Oregon, made 26 receptions for 338 yards and seven touchdowns in three games last season with the Utah Blaze.
