Can We Fix It?, also known as the Bob the Builder Theme, or simply Bob the Builder, is a song that is based around Bob and the Can-Do Crew, and is featured in the show's opening. The song was written by Paul K. Joyce and performed by Neil Morrissey in the UK dub. A remixed and re-recorded version of the song with extended lyrics is featured on Bob the Builder: The Album. This version reached number one on the UK Singles Chart, becoming Christmas number one in 2000, and also the biggest selling single of the year.

An extended version of the song is used in the US dub.

Bob the Builder, can we fix it?
Bob the Builder, yes, we can!
Scoop, Muck, and Dizzy, and Roley too
Lofty and Wendy join the crew
Bob and the gang have so much fun
Working together, they get the job done
Bob the Builder, can we fix it?
Bob the Builder, yes, we can! (Lofty: "I think so!")
Pilchard and Bird, Travis and Spud
Playing together, like good friends should
Bob the Builder, can we fix it?
Bob the Builder, yes, we can!

Trivia[]

  • There are two different versions of the US version:
    • William Dufris performs the song in early airings of the first 24 North American TV Blocks, the first three North American videos (as well as the Bob's White Christmas screener tape, the unreleased version of Celebrate With Bob that was on the Bob's Busy Day VHS, Build It Big!, Animal Adventures, Construction Chaos, and Let's Build!).
    • Neil Morrissey performs the song in most home media and TV airings after the initial 24 North American TV Blocks.
    • In On Site, Truck Teamwork, and most DVD/Digital releases of the US dub of Ready, Steady, Build!, it uses the UK lyrics, albeit mixed with the US vocals.
      • The Ready, Steady, Build! version removed the lyric, "Yes, we can!" at the end on most language versions, including both English versions.
        • Additionally, with this, the short US version of the Ready, Steady, Build! intro uses the UK instrumental mixed with the US vocals.
  • In the UK version of the Legend of the Golden Hammer intro, the lyrics, "Scoop, Muck and Dizzy, and Roley, too"; and "Lofty and Wendy join the crew" were repeated and a few speaking lines were heard during it.
  • The music video of Can We Fix It Is The first time Bob is wearing his blue work jeans
  • It was the second song in the UK when the show premiered in North America.
  • In almost all of the international versions, the theme song is sung by a male. But in the Swedish version, the theme song is sung by a female.
  • The music video version of the theme song is played on the Bob's White Christmas VHS (2002 release) and DVD before the episodes start. However, despite making it into the VHS and DVD release, it marks the very first time that the UK version of the series appeared in the US, mainly because of the fact that the extended version of the song, along with the other songs on The Album, were not redubbed by the American voice actors at the time.
  • In the Ready, Steady, Build! intro from the second season, Travis and Farmer Pickles are shown in the US version, but not in the UK; however, Travis is only mentioned.
  • The second and third season version uses the first season intro cropped to 16:9 (Fullscreen prints retained the full 4:3 ratio).
  • CBeebies airings of the first 3 seasons uses the first season intro cropped to 14:9, along with the original 1997-2001 3D HiT Entertainment logo.
  • From Series 4 through Series 9, the clip of Roley flattening the road was plastered over with a clip of Wendy laying bricks from Pilchard's Breakfast, most likely due to the fact that Wendy started being shown doing construction work more often the previous series, thus her work clothes became her normal outfit, and they wanted have that in the intro, but were unable to reshoot the entire intro. This version was always used in the US, since it premiered in the US by the time of Series 4. The original clip of Roley rolling the concrete flat can briefly be seen in the on-site episode Roads and Bridges.
    • Because the original clip was never shown in the US intro, many American viewers may not have known what it was.
  • Paul K. Joyce's original demo of the song (in which the vocals are most likely done by Joyce himself) has many differences from the final:
    • The song has a different rhythm.
    • During the "Scoop and the gang have so much fun" verse, there is whistling.
    • A few of the lyrics are different:
      • "Lofty and Wendy join the crew" is "Wendy and Pilchard..."
      • "Pilchard and Bird, Travis and Spud. Playing together, like good friends should" is "Lofty and Travis, Bird and Spud. Helping each other like good friends should."
      • "Bob and the gang have so much fun" is "Scoop and the gang..."
  • According to Paul K. Joyce, this song was composed with a question/answer call and response in the chorus because when he began to write the lyrics, he could not think of a word that rhymes with "builder".[1]
  • In the album version of the song, Bob's line at the start "take your places" is taken from Travis and Scoop's Race Day.

Goofs[]

  • In the extended version of the Project: Build It intro, the clips of Lofty lifting fallen trees and Scoop clearing rocks are mirrored, as Lofty and Scoop's ladders are on the wrong side.
